What’s your teaching style?

Relating test material to the real world is the most efficient and fun way to learn this material. Whether it’s discussing how buying a bond is similar to acting like a bank or examining real stories of insider trading, context is significantly important. It’s a big thing that your study materials are missing. Where do these rules come from? How have they been applied? What’s a different way of thinking about these concepts? I’m happy to answer all of those questions for you.

I’m also a big believer in visuals. When I work with my clients, I typically draw out several concepts. I screenshot all of my written lessons and send them to you by e-mail after our session is complete.

Why should I hire you?

Undoubtedly, there are many choices out there for tutoring help on FINRA/NASAA exams. However, most tutors don't have my experience and only tutor part-time.

You can learn more about my background on my 'About' page, but I've personally helped over 3,000 financial professionals pass a variety of licensing exams. At the height of my career at Fidelity Investments, I managed the company's national licensing program. My responsibilities included running a local program (coaching, tutoring, and teaching classes) with over 400 associates needing licenses annually. Additionally, I managed a team of licensing trainers that trained over 2,000 Fidelity associates annually.

After more than a decade in the industry, I left my position to start my own financial education company. There's a better way to teach these concepts, and I formed Basic Wisdom to focus all of my efforts on doing so. When I'm not tutoring online or locally, I'm shooting licensing videos and writing a Series 7 book that I'm aiming to release in 2019. Basic Wisdom takes up all of my time and efforts; I don't have any other jobs or responsibilities other than help people pass difficult licensing exams.

How do I book a tutoring session with you?

You can book tutoring with me directly on the tutoring page. Choose your license, then the type of tutoring you prefer. From there, choose the time for our session. If I’m not available when you need me, please reach out and I’ll be happy to consider your request.

What types of tutoring are available?

There are two types of tutoring sessions available: general and specialized.

General tutoring covers any testable topic you prefer to discuss. Bring a list of concepts and/or questions and we’ll cover them in detail. Nothing is out of bounds.

Specialized tutoring covers a specific topic or category. For example, the suitability crash course covers risks, benefits, and typical investors of various securities. These sessions come with course materials (notebooks and slides) and are meant to help you master a specific topic.

Can our online sessions be recorded?

Yes! To help pay for the storage requirements, I charge an extra $10/hour for recordings. They will be made available for you to download and keep after our session is complete.

How much does tutoring cost?

My rates are disclosed when you begin booking a tutoring session. This can be done on the tutoring page.

I really need help, but I can't afford your rates. What do I do?

I recommend reaching out to your sponsoring company. Although not common, some companies will pay for their employees to obtain tutoring for these licenses. Check with your manager to see if this may be a possibility.

Feel free to reach out to me directly to discuss any customized approaches to payment. In the past, I've swapped certain goods and services for tutoring. Although I can't guarantee it, I'm more than happy to entertain your ideas.

Is there an extra cost for small group tutoring?

I charge an extra $10/hour for each additional participant in our discussion.

How do I pay for tutoring?

When booking your session, you will be required to make payment up-front. Credit and debit cards are accepted. If you prefer a different payment method, please contact me.

Do you teach classes?

I do teach large classes, typically for financial corporations. In fact, this was my specialty when I worked for Fidelity Investments (teaching classes on various licenses to groups of 20-25 employees). I’ve estimated that my review sessions helped increase scores on average by 20-25%.

I’m happy to come to your location and teach a customized class to your team of employees. Please reach out to me for additional information.

What do I need to join an online session?

As long as you have an internet connected device (phone, tablet, laptop, or PC) and a way to talk with me (microphone + speakers or earbuds), then connecting with me is easy! When we schedule our session, I’ll send you a link and a confirmation. You are welcome to try out the link prior to our session to ensure that your technology works.

What if I have technical issues during our tutoring session?

While it’s rare that my clients have technical issues, I will not charge you if we can’t figure out a fix. To avoid potential connectivity issues, I recommend having your workstation (phone, tablet, laptop, or PC) close to your wireless router or plugged directly into the router.

What web platform do you use for tutoring?

I utilize Zoom, which is a very user-friendly platform. Zoom offers many built-in benefits, including a whiteboard, screen sharing, virtual backgrounds, and more. When it’s time to join our session, you’ll only need to click a link to join.

What if I need to cancel my session?

I know that life happens, which is why I don’t charge cancellation fees. If you need to cancel, you may do so through the e-mail confirmation you originally received after booking the session. However, if cancellation becomes a normal occurrence, I reserve the right to refuse future tutoring sessions.

What if I’m not sure that I need tutoring? Can I still reach out?

Absolutely! I’m always up-front and honest with my customers. If I don’t think you need my help, I’ll tell you. If you would like to get my thoughts on where you stand, please contact me directly.
